Tupelo Municipal Court

City of Tupelo

Environmental & Probable Cause

Environmental Court

  • The Municipal Court handles cases involving a violation of City Ordinances, Development Code, Animal Control and Parking during the Environmental Court Session on Monday afternoon.
  • Individuals may represent themselves (pro se) or seek the services of an attorney to address the issues surrounding the charge.
  • The defendant may resolve the issue on the plea date or have it set for a trial on another date.

Probable Cause Hearings

  • Probable cause hearings are a result of an individual charges another individual with a crime.  They are heard on each Monday afternoon, except holidays.
  • The process allows the charging individual (affiant) to present the circumstances surrounding the charge to the Court as verification that a crime has been committed. The presiding Judge may issue a warrant or a citation on the issue.
  • If a citation is issued, the defendant is notified, by mail, of the charge and given a date to enter a plea.  Failure to appear and answer the citation will cause an arrest warrant to be issued for the defendant.
  • The defendant may resolve the issue on the plea date or have it set for a trial on another date.
