Tupelo, Mississippi – The Tupelo Police Department will once again be hosting the Jr. Police Academy, June 17-29, 2012 at the North Mississippi Law Enforcement Training Center in Tupelo. The Jr. Police Academy is a two week, residency program designed for youths, 14 – 17 years of age, interested in pursuing careers in law enforcement or other related public service fields. Participants are selected following a board interview and personal background screening.  Selected cadets will be housed at the North Mississippi Law Enforcement Training center barracks during the week and will return home for the weekend. Cadets will participate in a simulated police academy, with an emphasis on team building skills. Cadets will also be familiarized with basic police operations and here presentations from various state, local and federal agencies.

  • Endville Road Closing:

    • Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad will conduct work on the Endville Road Railroad Crossing beginning Tuesday, April 17, 2012.  This section of roadway will be closed both day and evening hours throughout the duration of the project.  The crossing will re-open at 5:00 P.M. on Wednesday, April 18, 2012.

    The Public Works Department will provide detour routes during this project.  The routes are listed below.

    Endville Road (east bound)-Right on Countrywood Road, Left on Purnell Road, Left on West Jackson Extended, Left on Coley Road, Left on McCullough Boulevard to end detour.

    Endville Road (west bound)-McCullough Boulevard to Right on Coley Road, Right on West Jackson Extended, Right on Purnell Road, Right on Countrywood Road, to Endville Road to end detour.

    Message boards and signs will be placed in the project area on Sunday, April 15, 2012.

    For questions regarding the detour route please call the Public Works Department.  If you have questions regarding the railroad project, please contact the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad.

    The All America City quilt is now on display at Tupelo City Hall. The quilt is made up of quilt pieces from all 24 cities/counties who participated in the All America City Competition last year in Kansas City. Ten cities were named 2011 All America Cities, and Tupelo is proud to have been chosen as one of those cities! Tupelo now has 4 “All America City” titles. This quilt is being shipped across the country right now and will visit each of the 24 cities that are showcased on the quilt. The City of Tupelo received the quilt from Ann Arbor, Michigan, and will ship the quilt to Dakota County, Nebraska later this month. Please stop by and see the quilt being showcased in the Tupelo City Hall lobby. It will be at city hall until April 20, 2012. A special thank you to Debra Byrd, a Tupelo Development Services employee, for making the Tupelo quilt piece.

The Tupelo Water and Light Department will be repairing sewer lines in this area. Thank you for your patience as we continue to improve our city sewer system.

The Tupelo Public Works Department will install a cross drain at this section of roadway on March 20, 2012. The road will close at 7:30 A.M. and will reopen at 5:30 P.M. Traffic will be detoured around the project site during these hours. Traffic delays should be expected. Businesses located on Pegram Drive will have access to their parking lots by way of Green Street.
