TUPELO, MS – Two Tupelo firefighters are working this week as part of search and rescue efforts in Florida, following Hurricane Irma.

Tupelo Fire Chief Thomas Walker confirmed that Capt. Brad Robinson and Capt. Jesse Clock are among those that make up the Urban Search and Rescue team of the Mississippi Task Force 1 staged out of Marianna, Fla. The task force is under the direction of Chris Olson, chief deputy director of DeSoto County Emergency Services.

The task force arrived in Marianna on Sunday. It is using Chipola Community College as a staging area.

About mid-morning, Urban Search and Rescue Command in Florida requested the task force move to Jacksonville for water assistance. Shortly after noon, Olson said, the group was still traveling to Jacksonville.

We’ll post more updates as they become available.
